John J. Carmody, neurobiologist and former U.S. Marine and holder of the Silver Star and two Purple Heart medals as a platoon captain in Viet Nam and presently Director of the Christian Center for Nonviolence. In this interview, John discusses the cultural nurturing that encouraged him to become a member of an elite warrior and also the influences that redirected him to become a committed advocate for non-violent love. How do we learn to love our enemies in a popular culture of revenge and violence? “The whole idea of Christian love is to suffer without retaliation. If we can return an act of insult with an act of kindness, then we have actually used the stimulus of evil to create an act of kindness that didn’t exist before. Also appearing during the interview is a musical presentation of The Milkshake Quartet featuring Christine Mayfield.
