I think you mean film & video pro's use FCP these days; it's both.
Avid has stiff competition from Apple and will continue to lose ground in time, much like they did when FCE [Final Cut Express] came on to the market forcing Avid to release their own XPress.
I can imagine that it's frustrating not to be able to run FCP on a MacBook, however I do wonder what pro would use a laptop to do serious production work. Rough cuts and so on - fine - but this dude if obviously in a different league.

Many video professionals use Final Cut Pro. Probably a few less today, the video suggests.
