Night Owl A Film by Ramon Monxi Flores His website is www.mexikafilms.com (but i think the link is currently down, for some reason) Winner Cine Sin Fin 10th Annual East Los Angeles Chicano Film Festival Best Feature Best Cinematography Best Actor: Benn Meza "The Film generates suspense by isolating our compassion in clever and unforeseen ways. Pitched between interludes of anxious intimacy and equally nerve-shredding scenes, the Master Poet of nocturnal East Los Angeles, Ramon, Monxi Flores has elevated a gritty but powerful story -- about two young gangsters leaving a bloody trail of destruction into a mesmerizing and thrilling journey to self-realization." Our story "Night Owl" pierces into the lives of two young friends Carlos and Sandman, in the Barrio of East Los Angeles. They enter the ceremonial Sweat Lodge to help take away the madness in their lives. Once inside, time is suspended and visions are revealed. Carlos, a young street veterano and ex-dope fiend, sees himself relapsing by shooting up heroin, when he discovers that his ex-girlfriend is pregnant. He has a deadly overdose, but assumes he is only having a bad trip. Sandman, a small time neighborhood supplier sees himself making a lethal blunder when he murders Don Pancho of the Mexican Cartel. He rapes Thumper, his best friend's niece and suffers the bloody wrath of the Ladies Click. Characters from Carlos' past, present, and future guide him on his journey from earth to the after life. Through this intense journey he realizes that his life is a sacred circle; what he does today reflects on his tomorrow. He finally males peace with his past and is guided to Mictlan the Aztec Heaven, were he is reunited with his mother and other loved ones. Finally we return to the Lodge where Carlos and Sandman exit and embrace each other with the realization that they experienced a vision of what is to come if they choose to follow the path of self-destruction.
