Eclectic

From the blog: "This film I just recently created. It is a series of time-lapse shots that I edited together and put to music. Rather than using a regular video camera, I opted to use a digital SLR camera because it allowed me to shoot in ultra high definition as well as get the depth of field only available to film cameras. Dirty Dutch

Shame on The Netherlands! Finally after 11 months of un-shameless political behavior the responsibly ministers have resigned!!!On October 27th a fire broke out in a detention centre at Schiphol airport. This detention centre was used to incarcerate people who were about to be expelled from The Netherlands on the basis of illegal presence in The Netherlands. In this fire 11 people perished under quite horrifying conditions. They were cornered like a rat in a trap.It is very shameful that they were incarcerated in a building which was apparently prone to a blazing fire. The reaction by the ministers involved was even more shameful. They just denied that something was wrong and stated that the reaction by the authorities on the fire was 'adequate'. 11 people dead ... 'adequate' ...The most blatant reaction came from minister Verdonk, responsable for the policy towards aliens in The Netherlands. She stated that all people who survived the fire and 'were no longer needed for the investigations on the fire' should be expelled . People? qualify? these statements as Instrumental towards human beings and blatantly cold hearted. It is basically an expression that the policy by the Dutch government towards aliens is hostile. So anybody from abroad considering to work (e.g. as a scientist) or study in The Netherlands better makes a serious reconsideration on this.Source: Onderzoeksraad voor Veiligheid

Moving movie

Its amazing that in this documentary portrait the protagonist does not show up (because she is dead)The nature of documentary films has changed in the past 20 years from the cinema verité tradition. The recent success of the documentary genre, and the advent of DVDs, has made documentaries financially viable even without a cinema release. There are now around thirty quality feature-length documentaries on notable photographers, for instance, a situation that would have seemed incredible twenty years ago.Docudramas tend to follow a set of following guidelines... * A strict focus on the facts of the event being treated, as they are known * A tendency to avoid overt commentary or authorial editorializing * The use of literary and narrative techniques to flesh out or render story-like the bare facts of an event in history. * A tendency to avoid literary techniques as regards the overt assertion of the creator's own point of view or beliefs.Modern documentaries have a substantial overlap with other forms of television, with the development of so-called reality television that occasionally verges on the documentary but more often veers to the fictional or staged.Modern lightweight digital video cameras and computer-based editing have greatly aided documentary makers, as has the dramatic drop in equipment prices. Evening in Prague

Prague specifics * Zizkov - ex-working class district of Prague. It's the contemporary Czech center of Prague in the sense that the Old Town and Mala Strana are occupied by foreigners. In Zizkov there are cheap pubs (perhaps the biggest concentration of pubs per kilometre in the world) and the Czechs love beer. * Prague Pubs are places where many social topics are discussed. The greatest rival is found in the "caf?s" (during communism they were stagnating - but are now on the rise again). In the pubs (and caf?s) topics like politics, culture, favorite TV programs and of course football and ice hockey are discussed. * Beer - most Prague pubs sell only one brand of beer on tap, which is often specific to that pub. Czech beer is popular throughout Europe, and the Czech Republic (and Prague in specific) has a rich history of beer brewing. * Praguers (the people of Prague) prefer not to be called Eastern Europeans. The preferred term is Central Europeans. * Praguers (and the Czechs in general) have very sensitive subtle humour (sometimes hard for foreigners to recognize). * Prague is famous for its night life. There are hundreds of "night clubs", music clubs and
