This is a math game that I have developed using PyGTK to run on the OLPC. This demo does not use the OLPC VM, but the exact same program will run in the VM as well (and looks better since the windows are fullscreen there). The object of the game is to take the 4 numbers in the big squares and manipulate them using simple arithmetic (with order of operations and grouping via parentheses) in order to make them equal the result number in the lower right hand corner. The game randomly generates puzzles with a recursive checker to make sure there is always at least one way to solve the puzzle (no impossible puzzles!). It's fun for kids, but it can be tricky even for people who aren't kids :) Author: foxcm2000 Keywords: OLPC game math education pygtk linux Added: June 10, 2007

Impromptu Demo of OLPC's Children's Machine (aka $100 dollar laptop for the Third World) by Håkon Wium Lie, Chief Technology Officer at Opera Software. The group responsible for the initiative gave the Opera team a working prototype of the laptop so they could test Opera's software on the machine. This is an actual working prototype with internet accessibility any everything! All in all a noble cause. The audio gets better as the video continues. The following countries have announced they are interested in the program * Argentina * Brazil * Cambodia * Costa Rica * Dominican Republic * Egypt * Libya * Nigeria * Pakistan * Rwanda * Tunisia * Uruguay * Venezuela You can read more about the laptop at wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olpc Author: provisio Keywords: OLPC Children's Machine 100 dollar laptop opera third world demo demonstration Added: March 1, 2007
We speak with Eric Deritis from AMD as he gives us an overview of the OLPC. The One Laptop Per Child project is an important one, and Eric not only shows us a near-final build of the hardware and software, but he also gives us some background on the project itself, and why it's impact could be so huge. One quote he gave us was that the product isn't meant to reach the next billion people in the world, but rather it's meant to reach the last billion people. Powerful stuff.
